A Chinese Indonesian family stroll the narrow alleys of Jakarta’s Chinatown quarter in the day of Chinese New Year, or Imlek New Year as it’s known in Indonesia. Under the Suharto’s 32-year New Order regime, Chinese culture was suppressed in Indonesia. After the fall of Suharto, the Chinese Indonesians are free to preserve their tradition. Since 2004, thanks to the later president Abdurrahman Wahid, the Chinese New Year has been decreed as a national holiday.
