Karakol (“Black Lake”) is located in the Pamir mountains near the eastern border of Tajikistan. This is one of the highest lakes in whole Central Asia. There are no living creatures inside its giant water body, probably due to its high salinity. This eerie and mysterious lake was passed by caravans of the ancient Silk Road on their way of crossing Pamir, which was the border of the “East” (China) and “West” (Central Asia).
