Pakistan-controlled Kashmir was struck by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake, causing 70,000 deaths and more than 3.5 million displaced. More than 600,000 homes, 6.500 schools and 800 hospitals were destroyed. Kashmir was normally a sensitive region that foreigners were not allowed entry without permission. But after the earthquake, the regulation was loosened. I came there with a group of Pakistani volunteers of Danish Muslim Aid, to distribute building materials to the survivors in a small village of Noraseri. We lived in tents, and every night we discussed about humanitarian program in the region.
