Villagers travel on a Russian-made Kamaz truck in Chisht-e-Sharif, in the western Afghan province of Herat. The “central route” of Afghanistan connects Herat to Kabul, is unpaved for about 900 km of its leg. Public transport is difficult and expensive. Hitchhiking trucks is the main method of transport for most locals.
