For several years, Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, has been remaining in the top 10 list of the most dangerous cities in the world. Robberies and violent assaults by criminal gangs are still very rampant, one can be attacked even in his or her protected home. This affected much of the business. All supermarkets and institutions have to hire armed guards for 24-hour protection. Houses are surrounded by high concrete walls topped by barbed wires. Restaurants have double layer of doors, with at least one armed guard on every layer. Even a small shop at a little alley neighborhood like this has to equip itself with metal bars to prevent the buyers to have direct contact with the business owner. It seems that nobody in this city ever feel safe, and the constant sense of fear among many of its inhabitants often turns into paranoia.
