Pamir is located beyond 4,000 meter elevation at the northeastern corner of Afghanistan. It was part of the ancient Silk Road. The mountains are too high that Marco Polo described that no birds could fly beyond it and fire wouldn’t lighten normally. Marco also described that snow may come at any months of the year in Pamir. This photo of snowfall was taken in July, supposedly the peak of summer.
