A Wakhan woman smiles besides her mud house. She wears beautifully embroidered traditional costumes that consist of a cap (doppi), veil, shirt, skirts, trousers, vest, necklaces, pins, and other accessories. The women in Wakhan Corridor often wear heavy jewelries wherever they go. Unlike most of their Afghan sisters, the Wakhan women freely show their face in public.
