A woman from Wakhan Corridor happily shows her harvest. Wakhan Corridor is tucked at the northeastern corner of Afghanistan. It is a narrow corridor that functioned as a buffer between the Russian empire on the north and the British India on the south. The Wakhan Valley is inhabited by the Wakhan people, who believe in Ismaili sect of Islam. Unlike the majority Afghan Muslims, the Ismaili doesn’t not recognize the concept of veiling the women. The Wakhan women openly work in public along with the men without any restrictions.
