The Turkmen nomads live in Central Asian deserts of Turkmenistan, western Uzbekistan, and some parts of Afghanistan. The temperature of their desert habitat may reach 50 degree in summer. Nevertheless, the men wear telpek, huge shaggy sheepskin (so huge that it resembles afros wig) for the year round, even in the hottest summer days. The Turkmen say telpek protects them from overheating in the summer and from severe cold in winter.
