One of the most disturbing scenes on Kathmandu streets is the armies of homeless street children, sleeping on pedestrian paths. The vast majority of the children aged between 10 to 18, most are addicted to various types of drugs. It’s estimated about 75% of street boys in Kathmandu are victims of sexual abuse at the hands of foreigners, locals and their peers. During tourist season, many come into Thamel—the main tourist area in Kathmandu. They usually work in groups, begging for money or food. After midnight, many of them return to the outskirts and to closed off areas to sleep in groups.
