A Chinese Indonesian girl pray inside the 4-century-old Kim Tek Ie Temple in Jakarta’s Chinatown quarter in the eve of Chinese New Year. Under the Suharto’s New Order regime, Chinese culture was suppressed. After the fall of Suharto, the Chinese Indonesians are free to preserve their tradition. Since 2004, thanks to the later president Abdurrahman Wahid, the Chinese New Year has been decreed as a national holiday.
