Capitalism and materialism is inseparable element of life in China today. But somehow it grows, among some people, a certain kind of longing for a lost China. The China of Mao. The China of Revolution. The China of ideas, where everything was only about red. Recently, there are some thematic restaurants in Beijing offering a journey through time machine, bringing back visitors to the era of Cultural Revolution. You may feel you are attending a Party surrounded by Revolutionary slogans. The waiters, dressed in the Red Army and Red Guards uniform, address you as “Comrade”. Powerful performance on the stage praising Mao and his ideas makes you wish that you were actually live in the exotic bygone era. The only thing not so Communist about this, is that you will have to pay for all food, service and the fantasy with a capitalist price.
