Located at the roof of the world, the Pamir of Afghanistan is practically isolated from the rest of the world. It is even very difficult to reach from Afghanistan itself. For centuries, school never existed in this area. Only one month before my arrival, this first “school” was recently opened. The students study in nomads’ houses or yurt tents. Despite of the dire conditions, the school is expected to create the first batch of literate Afghan Kirghiz.
