The Wakhi people of Wakhan Corridor are followers of Ismaili sect of Islam. The sect always promotes their concept of equality between men and women, and does not recognize the ideas of veiling women or restricting the movement of women. The women of Wakhan also work freely like the men, sometimes even more. In this photo, a Wakhi woman from the village of Kret is dealing with cement and stones to build a tandoor (clay oven to bake bread).
