The Thorung La (5,416 m) is the highest pass in the classic Annapurna Circuit trek. Most trekkers cross the pass from east to west (from Manang to Muktinath). This is the easiest and safest direction, but includes a direct (and painful) descend of 1,200 meters from the Pass to Muktinath. Crossing Thorung La may be fatal due to the risk of avalanches, frostbite, and storm, especially if one travels in some dangerous months.
