The Afghan Kirghiz women play important role in preserving their culture. They make by themselves the colorful Kirghiz traditional dresses and accessories. There are no shops in the mountainous Pamir region (also dubbed as “the roof of the world), and trades are still conducted in primitive barter system. Therefore, it’s the duty for the women to produce clothing for the family members. The Kirghiz tribes get their garment and other materials from the visiting Afghan traders, and exchange them with their livestock.
